Nandana Sen Cape Town Connection

Nandana Sen keeps going to Cape Town every now and then.
Some have already hinted that a love affair’s brewing there. “Everyone seems to think I have a hubby hidden there,” complains Sen to BT, from the international airport where she waits to board a plane headed for Cape Town, again! “But the fact is that I’m doing many films that are being shot in Cape Town. There’s Season’s Greetings with Tabu and Sohail Khan, The World Unseen and

83 Days in! So it’s more of business and less of pleasure for me out there,” says a please-believe-me Nandana. But your pleasure is unfortunately our business, dahling! And though we’re missing out on all the ‘action’, such love stories don’t go totally ‘unseen’ you know!

Kajol Loves Jaipur

Be it her portrayal of Simran in Dilwale Dulhania... or of Anjali in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai...or now when she plays herself in television commercials, the one thing that comes across when Kajol is on screen is her spontaneity.

And the ace actress is no different in person either. A straight talker who doesn’t mince her words, Kajol had some really nice things to say about the Pink City on her recent visit here. It was business as usual for the lady who was here to promote the products of a telecom company. But if Kajol had the option of mixing business with pleasure, she would have really done so in Jaipur. And here’s why. “Jaipur is one of the most beautiful places on earth. I am really missing Ajay at this moment,” was her candid confession.

Rajnikanth admirers Amitabh Bachchan

When Rajnikanth described Amitabh Bachchan as the true emperor of Indian cinema, he meant every word.

The mutual admiration that the duo have for each other is well known and the Tamil superstar proved it again by asking for a special screening of Bachchan’s latest film Sarkar Raj in Chennai. The film reportedly impressed Rajnikanth so much, that he immediately called up the Big B and told him that this is his finest performance ever and that he is going to see the film once again purely for this reason.

Bachchan, touched by Rajni’s gesture, said, “It feels nice when an actor like him compliments you.”
Last year when Rajni’s film Sivaji The Boss had released, the South legend had flown down to Mumbai to show the film to his friend. Although the two superstars have been compared for their huge popularity, they share a great relationship with each other.

Thackeray family denied special screening of Sarkar Raj

The Thackerays didn't get a special dekko of the Bachchan family-starrer, Sarkar Raj, after all.

Blame it on the prickly issue of attack on North Indians or the verbal attacks directed at Bollywood's first family, but sources say that the Bachchan family has left for Bangkok for the film's world premiere on Wednesday night. Neither Balasaheb Thackeray nor Raj Thackeray have seen Sarkar Raj .

The Thackerays—both Balasaheb and Raj—had asked the film's producer-director Ramgopal Varma to organise a special screening of the film that is reportedly based on their family. Incidentally, the film unit had organised a special show of Sarkar, the film that preceded Sarkar Raj, for Balasaheb Thackeray three years ago.

According to a source from the Sarkar Raj unit, "There was no screening for the Thackerays. Only the Bachchan family and friends have seen the film before release. In fact, Abhishek Bachchan wanted to be the first one to see the film after the first copy was out."

Bachchans, along with Varma left for Bangkok, to attend the world premiere of the film to be held on Thursday. "So there is no chance of the Thackerays getting to watch the film before it hits the theatres," adds the source.

According to an MNS source, "Raj Thackeray was promised a special screening but the film has not been shown to him." It maybe recalled here when Raj Thackeray learnt that there is a character in the film that has strong resemblance to him, he had asked Varma to show him the film before its release. Raj had visited Varma's office and had seen about 25 minutes of the film.

The senior Thackeray immediately summoned Varma and demanded a special screening for himself.

In Sarkar Raj, which is a sequel to Sarkar, Amitabh Bachchan plays a political patriarch closely resembling the character of Bal Thackeray. Its villain, played by newcomer Rajesh Shringarpore, bears a resemblance to Raj Thackeray.

Raj Thackeray's move to see the film before the release is seen as another act of hijack by Matoshree after the entire North Indian issue, something that originally belonged to Sena ideology. The entire episode has assumed a different dimension as Raj Thackeray has an ongoing tiff with Amitabh Bachchan over the sons of soil issue.

Sarkar Raj Promotion Halted

Ram Gopal Varma and Amitabh Bachchan's plans for promoting their upcoming film Sarkar Raj went awry due to the recent outburst of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray.

Amitabh Bachchan and son Abhishek Bachchan was supposed to do a promotional rally at Shivaji Park . The rally was to be like a rally that takes place in the film and Bachchan with the cast would have addressed the public at the venue where several political rallies are held.

The makers of the film had planned out the event and even hired an event management agency to organise the rally. A source from the company says, “The event was being planned as a mock political rally which was supposed to be held on May 25 and we were asked to handle the event. We had also planned to publicise the event by using pamphlets and banners. But we have been asked to withhold all the preparations for now. “

Raj Thackeray's latest tirade against the Bachchans forced the producers and the organisers to rethink their decision. A source from Sarkar Raj's production house says, “Apart from the politically charged atmosphere, the security concern of the Bachchans was also one of the factors why the rally has been called off. ”

When contacted, Ram Gopal Varma was surprise at the leak of the information. “We were all tightlipped about it. Yes, we have planned something, but given the current political scenario it may not be possible to do so right now.”

Sarkar Raj

Ram Gopal Varma is ready with its sequel, Sarkar Raj. The film stars the three Bachchans -- Amitabh Bachchans, Abhishek Bachchans and Aishwarya Bachchans. The film was unveiled at Abhishek Bachchans and Ash's first wedding anniversary on Sunday, April 20.

Sarkar Raj will see Abhishek Bachchans and Aishwarya Rai together for the first time after their wedding last year. The film will release on June 6, 2008.

Ash plays the CEO of a power plant, called Sheppard, and wants to set up a plant in Maharashtra. That's when she enlists the help of Sarkar and his family.
Her character seems to be similar to the former CEO of the ENRON power company, Rebecca Mark, but Ash denied the resemblence.

Shankar Nagre (played by Abhishek) is quick to realise the benefits the power plant can bring to people. He tries to convince Sarkar (played by Amitabh Bachchans), who, for various reasons, is against the idea.
Shankar then undertakes a journey to rural Maharashtra to mobilise the support of the masses.
